The Town of Woods Hole
Throughout the scientific community and many trivia
experts, Woods Hole is best known for the Oceanographics Institute, renowned
for finding the Titanic with the deep-diving research submarine "ALVIN." Also
located here, are the Marine Biological Laboratory and the Sea Education
Association. The Nation marine Fisheries maintain what is said to be the oldest
Aquarium in the country.
Woods Hole is known to locals and returning visitors alike as a seaside
village filled with treasure of the Cape. It is easily reached from the town of
Falmouth by the "Whoosh" trolley or by the
"Shining Sea Bike path." Within walking distance are many shops, galleries, and
restaurants frequented by passengers waiting for the next ferry to Martha's
Vineyard or Nantucket Island. The U.S. Coast Guard has a base here open for
touring and just a short distance away is the Nobska Lighthouse on Church
Street. For History Buffs the Bradley House Museum and the Woods Hole
Historical Collection are a must see.
Whether you desire to fish, shop and eat, or stroll down peaceful ocean
paths, Woods Hole is your destination.
